Gidget is everyone’s favorite perky surfer chick.
- They just don’t make TV shows like this anymore. Travel back to a sweeter, simpler time before political correctness when perky bikini clad teenagers frolicked on the Southern California beaches.
- This series followed the film adaptations of the 1957 novel “Gidget, the Little Girl with the Big Ideas” by Frederick Kohner which is based on his daughter and the surf culture at Malibu Point. The ‘60’s also saw the rise of the teen dream beach culture with hits from the Beach Boys flooding radios and the success of the “Beach Blanket Bingo” films.
- It’s hard to imagine that Sally Field was only eighteen when she donned her bikini and hung ten. She has gone on to become one of the most well-respected actresses in the world with such roles are The Flying Nun and Norma Rae. All in all, Mrs. Field has won two Oscars, three Emmys, two Golden Globes, and countless other acting awards.
- Favorite Quote: “I’ve been cursed by a witch. She whammied my surfboard”- Gidget (Sally Field)
- Gidget's home is situated next door to the principal residence on Bewitched, which was in production at the same time. In select episodes, Samantha and Darrin Stephens' house is visible in exterior shots from Gidget's front yard.
Sally Field stars as Gidget, a cute and spunky Southern California surfer chick with a knack for finding trouble and crushing on boys. Life was much simpler back in the ’60s.
