The Shield

The police drama that proved cops can be just as bad as the criminals. Somtimes even worse.

Vic Mackey is the complete opposite of Michael Chiklis' first cop show role, Tony Scali on The Commish. Where Vic was intimidating, brutal, and toned, Tony was affable, understanding, and pudgy.

 

The show was originally advertised as "Rampart," named after the Rampart Division scandal that the show's strike force was loosely based upon.

 

Notable film actors took extended roles on the show, including Glenn Close, Anthony Anderson, and Forest Whitaker.
